Welcome to Drug Addicts Anonymous USA

Drug Addicts Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who have recovered from addiction and are committed to helping those who still suffer. We have recovered by using the Twelve Steps as outlined in the book of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Drug Addicts Anonymous is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization, or institution, does not engage in any controversy, and neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to recover from our addiction and help other addicts to achieve the same freedom. Drug Addicts Anonymous is not dedicated to users of any one specific drug, and use of no single drug was predominant among our members.

Drug Addicts Anonymous is fully supported by voluntary contributions from its members and declines outside donations.

The Twelve Step program is a fact-finding and fact-facing process. It requires action on the part of the addict and, if worked properly, will be intensive and enlightening. Newcomers may choose to be guided through the steps by experienced members of Drug Addicts Anonymous who have had deep and effective spiritual experiences as the result of working the steps themselves.

Once we were able to admit that we had been defeated by addiction, all that was required to begin the program was willingness, honesty, and open-mindedness.

You are saying to yourself: “I’m jittery and alone. I couldn’t do that. But you can. You forget that you have just now tapped a source of power much greater than yourself. Where it Began:

Drug Addicts Anonymous was founded in Sweden in 1997 and is the first 12-step fellowship that was founded outside the United States.

Drug Addicts Anonymous has now grown and there are meetings in at least eight cities in Sweden with up to some 33 meetings a week. DAA is also available in Norway, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, USA, Canada and Great Britain.

We are a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to try to solve their common problem and help others to recover from drug addiction.

We recover through the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Twelve Steps. We cannot express our gratitude enough to AA, who gave us the permission to adapt and apply the 12 steps and 12 traditions.

United States History:

The spark that was to flare into the first Drug Addicts Anonymous group in the United States was started in Dallas, Texas in early 2006 when a small group of addicts wanted to join a 12 step fellowship that used the program of action outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Out of respect for AA’s 12 traditions and singleness of purpose they knew they could not become members of AA but they also realized the success this program had in sobering up drunks. If such a program could relieve an alcoholic of their obsession with alcohol then it could do the same in relieving an addict’s obsession with drugs.

In desperate need to find an affiliation, they were elated to find Drug Addicts Anonymous. Upon contacting their brothers and sisters in Sweden, they were granted permission to use DAA’s 12 steps and traditions. Hence the first Drug Addicts Anonymous group in the US was born. Since that time we have grown in numbers and strength with groups of twos and threes popping up in several states and others forming in England, Germany, Canada, Norway and Australia.
